Supplier Quality Engineer

The Challenge

As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you'll drive the improvement of existing supplier processes;

continually bettering quality of service and value-add to GEA’s manufacturing. Work to manage the certification and launch of new manufacturing processes within the supply base, ensuring that all New Product Implementations meet expectations for quality and delivery.

What you will Do

  • Own all aspects of quality engineering and project management for suppliers of assigned commodity. This includes qualification of suppliers, continuous ownership and development throughout the life-cycle of the supplier, and cross-functional support for all related programs that impact Cost of Quality (COQ) to GE.

  • Perform on-site business surveys and technical audits on potential new suppliers.

  • Utilize technical expertise in assigned commodity design and manufacturing equipment to work with suppliers in developing optimal product designs and manufacturing processes.

  • Participate in cross-functional new product development teams reviewing Engineering releases (DFM), changes and supplier proposals for manufacturing and testing (DFX) while managing the implementation plan for every new part and process.

  • Champion the use of quality tools, Supplier Composite Scorecard and other data to identify and drive quality projects across all suppliers resulting in the overall improvement of supplier value to GE (Delivery, quality, cost)

  • Monitor and resolve supplier process control performance issues by developing robust quality control plans and implementing sustainable corrective actions

  • Drive permanent resolution of manufacturing issues and consumer issues caused by supplier defects.

  • Head projects involving supplier moves, process and material changes. Support design change projects.

  • Guide Supplier Quality initiatives, and develop activities to fix-or-exit problematic suppliers by implementing robust corrective actions or qualifying alternate suppliers.

What you need to Succeed

Required Qualifications :

  • Minimum 3 years' Design, Supplier Quality or 5+ years of Manufacturing Quality experience

  • Ability to operate successfully in a matrix organization

  • Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Demonstrated project management skills

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated technical leadership of process development and analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Prior global work experience & multi-lingual (Chinese / Spanish)

  • Working knowledge of Supplier Quality systems and processes

  • Lean experience or Six Sigma Certification

  • Ability to simplify complex information and concisely prepare both verbal and written executive summaries to the Appliance Leadership Team.

  • Preferred candidates have 3+ years of experience with assigned commodity design or manufacturing

Working Conditions:

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (20%)
