The Challenge

The Senior Lean Enterprise Specialist is a role within the GE Appliances’ Lean Enterprise organization that is responsible for leading and executing projects in support of the Lean Enterprise strategy. Focus areas include lead time reduction and support for projects to improve service and inventory turns metrics.

What you will Do

Hub and Spoke (40%)

Head GEA Hub strategy beginning with the execution of the Mabe Hub in Laredo.

  • Pilot utilizing our existing mixing center to prove out service and inventory benefits.

  • Coordinate with Distribution to create project scope, timeline, and 2021 implementation.

In preparation for Laredo Hub implementation, steer improvement projects to reduce lead time and improve service levels.

  • Reduce lead time to the border and overall deployment transportation time.

  • Improve production signaling patterns using sku segmentation.

  • Integrate systems reducing deployment lead time and improving visibility.

Expand strategy to all US Hubs. Execute these projects using Lean concepts and tools:

  • Manage cross-functional teams within the business to ensure timely implementation of projects. Define the project milestones and success metrics for the team.

  • Support and Collaborate with business teams to thoroughly understand the current state and the opportunities. Clearly define the problem statement using A3 tool. Incorporate cross-functional inputs to create the ideal state.

  • Ensure SOP’s are up-to-date with control plans, ownership and management systems clearly defined to ensure sustainability.

  • Track and report out project success metrics to measure progress.

Segmentation Strategy for Supply Chain (30%)

Support the implementation of Segmentation to push Inventory Turns and Product Availability improvements. Work with Distribution and Fulfillment Teams to develop improved flow through the finished-goods network.

  • Develop a model line for “A-sku’s” focusing on key suppliers. Implement process improvements to stabilize the flow of parts to the factories

  • Pick a model customer to understand how they measure service levels and establish how GEA internal metrics should align with the customer.

  • Test the concept of Deploy to Order using a “B/C-sku” and establish what capabilities are needed to scale this process.

Lean Enterprise Capability Development (15%)

Focus on building the capabilities of GEA employees across all business functions to become lean thinkers and proven problem solvers.

  • Develop all GEA employees to utilize system-wide problem solving through problem definition, developing a direction and utilizing a cross-functional approach to solve the problem.

  • Provide sound support in cultivating an environment that supports system thinking. Provide coaching, mentoring and training on the application of lean enterprise methodology.

  • Create opportunities for employees to learn through their jobs and within the classroom. Make recommendations regarding the enhancement or development of training programs.

Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the GE Appliances Lean tools (10%)

  • Coach using After Action Review (also known as a "post mortem"), a tool that identifies opportunities to make changes to improve outcomes for future projects/activities.

  • Coach the Go See tool to support "learning to listen" and observe to improve the understanding of a problem or situation.

What you need to Succeed

Prior relevant military service will be considered in relation to required/desired qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or related field.

  • 5 years’ experience working within the Appliance business – preferably materials.

  • 5 years of related experience in process improvement, change management and/or process redesign.

  • Successful experience with either leading change within a business function.

  • Solid track record of project leadership and execution with significant and impactful results.

  • Proven project management and execution skills.

  • Flexibility with working in a wide variety of business functions and shifting focus as priorities or learning requirements change. Comfortable interfacing with a diverse and changing stakeholder group and cultivating new relationships quickly.

  • Proven experience using value stream mapping, 1x1 problem solving, A3 thinking, visual management and/or production flow.

  • Avid learner who stays current on industry trends and best practices.

  • Ability to take inputs from multiple functions and perspectives and translate it into an actionable plan while reconciling and integrating contesting interests.

  • Can see/learn the big picture and modify priorities with broader goals, measures outcomes, uses feedback to change as needed, evaluates alternatives, solutions oriented, seeks alternatives and broad input; can see connections within complex issues.

  • Demonstrates initiative and takes action proactively. Possess the self-discipline to take actions before they are necessary, optimism towards achieving positive outcome and the competitiveness to translate a plan into action.

  • Sound problem solving, analytic, and project management skills. Goal-oriented and proactive in problem solving, coupled with creativity and a high energy level.

  • Solid interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business or related field.

  • Cross functional experience working within at least 2-3 different GEA business functions.

  • Experience collaborating and managing projects across multiple functions.

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for both an office and manufacturing environment.

  • Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 25 pounds.

  • Working in the manufacturing environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, work shoes/boots.

  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

  • Up to 25% travel required for travel to plants, suppliers, etc.
