The Challenge

The Small Appliances Sr Director of Product Management reports to the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives and Channel Development, and will collaborate with passionate innovators, engineers, and manufacturers worldwide to create leading products that bring Happiness and Well-being to our consumers. You will have broad leadership responsibility for the product line strategy and end to end profitability. This role is analytical and requires strong collaboration between multiple functions including: Technology, SmartHome Solutions, Supply Chain/Operations, Sourcing, Service, Sales & Marketing, and Product Development.

What you will Do

The Small Appliances Product Manager is a strategic leadership role with ownership and responsibility for product vision, developing a clear product strategy and path to success including multi-generational product planning and program management for the Small Appliances product line. In this role, you will:

  • Understand all key financial metrics and the levers that impact them, with a strong focus on driving growth in top line revenue, EBIT and cash flow; You will be responsible for maximizing the value of the product and the work of the development team, balancing new features with operative work such as on-going maintenance, cost optimization, product line profitability, SKU count, service call rate and performance.

  • Communicate product vision in a way that crystalizes who we are working for, our owners, and the problems we are trying to solve for them.

  • Lead collaboration with SmartHome Solutions team to define market leading implementations/needs of connected IoT strategies throughout our entire portfolio of products.

  • Collaborate with Small Appliances (Hardware) technology team to define deliverables, ERDs, and the overall consumer experience to be delivered. Act as both Product Manager, collaborating with the (Hardware) technology team, and work cross functionally as Program Manager in defining leading experiences and User Stories in concert with the SmartHome Solutions (Cloud/App dev) team.

  • Lead and collaborate with GEA cross-functional teams and customers to develop and execute multi-generation product designs, product plans and new product introductions (NPI)

  • Develop financially justified business cases for new products and product enhancements working with engineering, design, marketing, and sales to refine product concept, evaluate its feasibility and communicate to the organization

  • Engage with suppliers at a strategic level, in conjunction with Sourcing team, to drive market leading product innovation/solutions and cost leadership.

  • Partner with marketing insights team on consumer research on required product attributes desired by owner/customer and direct cross-functional efforts to deliver on the requirements

  • Sales enablement: communicate the value proposition of the products to the sales team and work with marketing to develop the sales tools that support the selling process of your products.

  • Lead and execute all product related initiatives, including ownership of Product Nomenclature, Product Information Management, MGPP, MGBP, and Program Management of the pipeline of smart/connected products to deliver leading connected experiences.

  • Work with Service and Quality teams to determine and best practices to transform our overall ownership experience by integrating a complete ownership lifecycle approach to pre/post purchase customer service, warranty, repair, and replacement.

  • Conduct monthly cross-functional product council sessions to provide a solid financial, commercial, technology and operational overview.

  • Develop and define winning experiences for a digital-first go to market strategy. Work cross functionally with Brand and Direct-to-Consumer teams, providing leadership for Commercialization strategy. Become and internal leader in driving monetization of the installed base.

What you need to Succeed

Position Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited university or college; advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years, combined experience in Product and P&L Management, and relevant Business experience

  • Demonstrated leadership in delivering significant improvements to Multi-Generation Product Plans and world-class product quality. Consistently achieves results, hold self and others accountable.

  • Results oriented: proven ability to deliver on commitments and follow through with strong influencing skills

  • Builds strong customer relationships and delivers consumer-centric solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience in effective cross functional and leadership level communications

  • Experience in NPI commercialization; knowledgeable of NPI process

  • Demonstrated strength in cross functional and leadership level communications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Courageous: Seeks challenge, is comfortable with failure when it leads to insights, and can navigate teams thru setbacks. Proactively calls out issues and drives for resolution.

  • Is able to articulate the vision and strategy that inspires others, gaining support and commitment and propelling teams into action.

  • Experience in Brand Development or Brand Management a strong preference

  • MBA a strong desire

  • Experience working in an agile software development team

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with increasing levels of Product responsibility in B2B or B2C businesses, technology start-up or product companies.

  • Previous experience with IoT/connected products.

  • Cross-functional leadership experience, particularly in commercial roles

  • Previous experience in Appliances or a consumer products business

  • Experience in product discovery, designing experiments to test hypothesis

  • Fluency in the language of software/app development a plus; able to work closely with and influence engineers, knows how to ask questions to get to the best decision.

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.

  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20lbs.

  • 30 - 40% travel required for domestic and/or international travel to customer sites/ plants, etc.
