Senior Transportation Operations Manager
The Senior Transportation Operations Manager role will be responsible for managing a team of 4 to 6 employees focused on Customer Shipments. This role will be responsible for driving the team’s critical metrics focused on cost, capacity, and service. It will also be responsible for identifying/executing projects to drive efficiency, savings, carrier capacity, and on-time performance for customer shipments. The Operations Manager role will also help champion the “POD” concept within the Logistics & Transportation team by driving a culture of ownership & empowerment. The Senior Transportation Operations Manager will be responsible to identify and develop tools and processes to enable the team to deliver GEA’s growth targets. This role will mentor, coach, and lead the customer transportation team to achieve their goals.
What you will Do
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage the GEA Transportation team members that are focused on Customer Transportation shipments. Responsible for all managerial aspects of this team.
Lead team on key metrics focused on cost, capacity, and service. Work with team to identify key projects to achieve team goals, maximize performance, and drive accountability.
Champion “POD” concept among the Transportation & Logistics team. Create a culture of ownership, empowerment, creativity, and fun within the POD’s.
Verify team has up to date routing guides documented. Address any capacity gaps & constraints in our network and seek out new carriers to resolve those issues.
Laser focus on productivity and cost. Help team drive projects to achieve financial targets.
Verify team has current & accurate rates in the system & documented. All billing & financial transactions are current and audited for accuracy.
Identify & enable tools and resources needed to allow the team to be successful.
Work cross functionally to drive improved communication and other process improvement projects with entire Transportation & Logistics organization, ADCs, Order Service, Lean, Fulfillment, and Sales teams.
Mentor, Coach, and develop team to thrive in their current role and help them develop the skills need to reach their career goals.
What you need to Succeed
Minimum of seven years of work experience
Strong team leader who can create a clear vision and lead team to perform at high levels both in day-to-day operations and strategic process improvements
Proven ability to effectively communicate and partner with customers, across functions, and at all levels of the organization.
Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively manage high volume operations with competing priorities
Strong process skills and detail orientation
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
Proven self-starter; takes the initiative to identify and drive change
15% travel required for domestic and/or international travel to customer sites/ plants, etc.
Minimum 5 + years of work experience in distribution, supply chain, fulfillment and/or finance
Proven ability to partner with IT, translating functional requirements into technical specifications that can be executed cost effectively and on schedule
Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team
Demonstrated Leadership Skills
Proven self-starter; takes the initiative to identify, drive change and learn new skills
Advanced skills in Access, Excel, Tableau (Oracle / OTM / ERP experience is a plus)
Six sigma certification
