The GE Appliances Senior Principal – Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME), Manufacturing Strategic Initiatives is an AME staff member position responsible for developing and then implementing strategy to solve business need. Projects will include Factory Master Plan (FMP), Transfers of Work (TOW), Business Development, Competitive Intelligence, and strategic New Product Introduction scoping activities. This hands-on Project leader role fosters professional growth thru training at the function and Manufacturing Supply Chain.
The AME team is a key liaison between NPI programs and the factory operations teams; ensuring plant priorities and objectives are clear and considered. The AME organization provides DFM input, applies lean principles and ensures knowledge transfer to plant operations.

What you will Do
Program manage FPM’s, TOW’s, Major Program Scoping, Business Development activities, and strategic Make/Buy activities
Facilitate/Champion Factory Master Plan process and Modular Product Architecture while utilizing the Production Preparation Process (3P), TPM and Lean manufacturing principles in developing manufacturing equipment and processes.
Utilize cross-functional participation to ensure that the equipment and processes are value stream compatible.
Lead systematic gathering of competitive intelligence and industry / manufacturing trends through benchmarking in the appliance and adjacent industries.
Champion strategic initiatives across product line AME teams and Factory Operations
Coordinate and manage capital equipment procurement projects: Including specification development, supplier selection, engagement, technical reviews, factory layout development, installation and qualification of equipment. Ensure all tooling and equipment is reliable and robust and designed to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Lead Factory Master Plan process coaching and facilitation efforts transitioning plants from FMP 2.0 to FMP 3.0.
Assist in the development and execution of the AME Hoshin and ensure it aligns with Supply Chain Product and Platform objectives.
Identify and manage all manufacturing and operation risk throughout full project lifecycle leadership. Ensure significant risks are elevated in a timely manner.
Promote the use of the 9-Step Process for tooling and equipment design; consult Critical Process leaders as applicable to ensure development of robust processes for part / product generation. Work with cross-functional team to develop Manufacturing Control Plans (MCP) and Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCI).
As a senior professional, participate in growing the AME organization’s capability through AME 101 process. This includes mentoring, guiding and helping more junior team members as well as adding to the body of knowledge of the department (training, developing new manufacturing processes, supporting Hoshin objectives, etc.)
What you need to Succeed
Demonstrable Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) & Manufacturing Strategic Initiatives Project Leader subject matter expertise
Familiarity and understanding of standards and Request for Quote (RFQ) process.
Familiarity and understanding of Quality Management System's (QMS).
Fluent with Lean manufacturing principles and familiarity Mfg. Performance Systems.
Strong influencing and collaboration skills – will be expected to work with leaders within the AME org. & cross-functional leaders to develop new standards/procedures/polices and update policies/procedures to ensure alignment.
Independent and Self Starter – While collaboration is key, the work is very broad as there are many standards/procedures/polices for the AME team that need updating / creating.
Able leader of multi year projects with proven ability to prioritize team efforts
Creative, clear thinker – Will be expected to work with subject matter experts to develop standards/procedures/policies which are not over restrictive and bureaucratic.
Good organizational, project management and presentation skills to interact with all levels within the organization and with suppliers and vendors
Demonstrated ability to take ownership of cross-functional deliverables and ability to drive decisions based on the overall benefit to the company
Direct Management experience for highly skilled engineering teams
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent hands on experience in technical/manufacturing disciplines gained at co’s of similar size/complexity to GE Appliances.
Program Manager experience including mastery of GEA business level program funding processes and mechanisms as well as cross-functional NPI processes
10 yrs experience managing capital equipment procurement projects & teams: Including specification development, supplier selection, technical reviews, installation and qualification of equipment
Prior experience in a large-scale manufacturing environment
Effective communicator and demonstrated change agent
Six Sigma Certification
Manufacturing project leadership experience; demonstrated ability to manage an engineering team, manage program risk to meet technical & commercial requirements
Experience in multiple product development functions a plus - Advanced Quality Engineer, Mfg. Engineer, Product Design and/or Site Supplier Quality Engineer
Experience with Bill of Process
Experience in communicating business/project performance with C-suite executive leadership teams
Strong business acumen and understanding of business financials
Knowledge of IT systems (Windchill, Sourcing etc.)
Experience in operational plant Manufacturing Engineering a plus
Familiarity of capitalization requirements, understanding business financials
Advanced degree in engineering or business
Six Sigma Black Belth or Master Black Belt
Proficient in MS Office, MS Scheduler (or equivalent) and AutoCAD
Working conditions are normal for a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 30 pounds and working in and around heavy equipment.
Hours & Weekends: Working off-shift and weekends will be required during significant project points of need.
Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats.
Frequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment.
20-30% travel may be for domestic and/or international travel to supplier sites/ plants, etc.
