Senior External Communications Specialist

The Challenge

The Senior External Communications Specialist focuses on designing and executing the company’s external communications strategies, which includes content development for traditional, audiovisual and digital news platforms, as well as managing the company-owned media and the virtual newsroom.

As member of GEA’s communications team, this role will also contribute to brand, employee and social responsibility communications projects, including events and crisis management.

What you will Do

  • Design and execute media relations strategy, working closely with company executives and managers, the social media unit.

  • Act as the expert single point of contact across multiple business units and functions and work with PR and creative agencies to develop and execute thought-leadership programs, media outreach and engagement strategies and creating multipurpose communications assets.

  • Story mining and creative content development are critical deliverables of this role, identifying and sharing untold stories that will sparkle conversations among key stakeholders, influencers and engaged consumers.

  • Develop and maintain media mapping

  • Develop media relations agenda and cultivate key relationships

  • Develop and execute media story pitches / focus on national pitches

  • Anticipate emerging media trends and design plans

  • Identify story placement opportunities, develop content and execute media engagement

  • Coordinate media briefings, on-the-record and off-the-record engagements, and media events

  • Produce multimedia and digitally friendly content (written, audiovisual, visual)

  • Develop content for business and citizenship stories for internal and external use

  • Curate and maintain company’s newsroom

  • Develop evergreen content and newsworthy stories for the company’s website

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Communications / Journalism

  • 5+ years of Communications experience, including experience in social, digital, and traditional media. Demonstrated multimedia content development and advanced storytelling proficiency.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.

  • Deep understanding of the traditional and, digital media and a new environment where evolving tools and platforms are used to improve online presence with excellent working knowledge of social media outreach strategies. Able to translate trends into communications and business opportunities.

  • Strong leadership and consensus building skills, with a willingness to continually embrace personal and professional development.

  • Prior experience working with multifunctional teams

  • Able to interact with all levels of the organization; must be able to articulate represent the company as spokesperson.

  • Strong relationship builder both within the organization and with external partners.

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and change. Must be able to work in a fast pace environment.
