Principal Manufacturing Quality Engineer
As the Principal Manufacturing Quality Engineer, you'll develop and lead a strategy for subsystem quality that promotes the Appliance Performance System philosophy supporting the GE Appliance Bottom Freezer Sealed Systems and Assembly line. You'll provide total quality ownership over an assigned subsystem, product and/or area and its related manufacturing operations.
What you will Do
Facilitate all resources associated with Plant Profitability to meet quarterly goals for the subsystem/area. Work with Business Leader(s) to define quarterly goals and focus areas.
Manage Quality staff as assigned or dotted line assigned (may incl. Quality Improvement Engineers, Autopsy Lab Engineers, etc.), including defining projects and daily responsibilities to meet goals and metrics. Includes goal setting, coaching, performance feedback.
Overall oversight and coordination of problem solving process for related subsystem/area issues, including verification of the resolution.
Analyze SCR data to spec, design and/or redesign, and implement new testing protocols/parameters to drive down production failures and improve FPY.
Communicate actual metrics vs goals regularly to team, including plans to address gaps.
Establish awareness to external and internal data for leading indicators to initiate and implement countermeasure projects to ensure containment and resolution.
Own level 3 escalation issue resolution for any subsystem/area issue affecting quality including audit findings. Elevate issues through escalation meetings and influence the priority of resources. Help set success metrics for projects. Facilitate on-time project execution and assist to address issues.
Facilitate the MCP process to create, communicate and publish all documents. Ensure MCP documents are relevant and up-todate.
Coordinate resources to operationalize MCPs. Ensure MCP processes are followed during change control. Work with CIB chairman to ensure documentation meets ISO requirements.
Attend meetings, as appropriate, related to change control, including CIB, FRACAS and manufacturing meetings.
Attend daily escalation, production & floor meetings to understand issues & prioritize projects. Escalate to ensure timely resolution.
Communicate project status & timing with plant team. Ensure projects are on schedule & deliverables will be met.
The following tools/data is used: FQ system, warranty data, EOLA, Cat/Cut data, problem solving tools
Escalate and assign EOLA, product testing, noise and ship test failures to appropriate resources. Communicate Class 1 issues to plant team. Facilitate discussion on strategy to address issues.
Provide NPI/M1 startup support for subsystems, including understanding deviations for incoming material, rework requirements, plant production processes, autopsy readiness and early response to rejects.
Interface with SQE team. Ensure supplier issues are being addressed and followed up on. For supplier changes, ensure the change control process adherence, participate in technical reviews and assess overall readiness for the supplier change.
Coordinate cross functionally to ensure repair procedures are approved and repair operators are trained.
Support Field Quality to ensure quality controls are in place for rework/reprogramming completed at supplier sites or warehouse.
Interact with Consumer Home Svcs group to exchange information about service calls and concerns as needed.
Mentor cross functional team members on technical and process-related items associated with product / area quality.
What you need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline
7 years' equivalent experience in floor quality in a fast paced, high volume manufacturing environment.
Experience with product and process Quality Management System development and implementation
Knowledge of PFMEA / FMEA and linkage to Manufacturing Control Plans.
Engineering degree strongly preferred with focus on Thermodynamic Refrigeration Systems.
Previous experience leading manufacturing quality teams
Six Sigma Certification
Expert ability in gauging and other measurement tools
Strong working knowledge of APQP and PPAP
Working conditions are normal for a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 30 pounds and working in and around heavy equipment.
Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing
protection, safety boots, and hardhats.
These roles will require frequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment.
10% or less travel may be for domestic and/or international travel to supplier sites/ plants, etc.
Hours & Weekends: Working off-shift and weekends may be required.
