Principal Design Engineer

The Challenge

Thermal systems engineer to develop and implement continuous improvement projects and support strategic launches. Projects range in scope and complexity from 6 months to 12 months and may be launched at plants throughout the southeast or internationally.

What you will Do

Essential Responsibilities

  • Project ownership of operational product changes to improve process and material efficiency of thermal systems components including but not limited to compressors, evaporators, condensers, controls and airflow components.

  • Execute and complete thermal evaluation as required to abate risks and complete qualification. Adapt controls as required to optimize product performance.

  • Own projects and responsibility for the change approval process. Drive cross functional team to support projects as required for schedule attainment, builds, supplier transitions, and internal process development to ensure required activities are completed to successfully launch projects.

  • Develop a thorough and complete knowledge of product platforms and their associated temperature, energy, and noise performance.

  • Successfully root cause and resolve quality issues as they arise in the field and lab qualification programs.

  • Ensure all regulatory requirements are met.

  • Document concepts, prototype, and production configurations.

What you need to Succeed

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree with 10 years of relevant work experience.

  • Ability to evaluate data using statistical tools to statistically demonstrate difference, and design experiments to define major factors.

  • Proactive problem solver comfortable with hands on work in a laboratory or manufacturing setting. Able to demonstrate and communicate solutions.

  • Willing to travel up to 20% to ensure project success with higher percentage during critical periods, ability to hold off work hour conference calls with global suppliers as required.

  • Strong computer skills - high proficiency in Microsoft products. Ability to grasp new systems quickly.
