Principal Design Engineer-Gas Cooking COE
This Principal design engineer role within the Gas Cooking Center-of-Excellence (COE) team is responsible for leading the design, development and implementation of the next generation gas cooking appliances. This hands-on position requires creativity and technical expertise to identify and develop innovative, cost effective, and timely engineering solutions to meet key business metrics. This role is responsible for development efforts from concept design, predictive analysis, prototype builds & evaluation, qualification, and transition into production as part of the GEA change control process.
What you will Do
Own design and implementation of gas cooking products ensuring that platform/COE goals are met.
Help guide multi-generational technology development and execution around critical technologies necessary to maintain a competitive advantage within the industry.
Generate Intellectual Property to Protect GEA technology.
Track patent landscape and competitor trends in gas cooking technologies.
Provide leadership and oversight of gas cooking platforms to optimize safety, agency, performance, quality, service, manufacturing, and cost.
Provide leadership and expertise in managing industry standards such as ANSI gas standards and test procedures to provide recommendations on designs.
Mentor engineers in fundamental sciences, application, and product design.
Work within a cross functional group of engineering, marketing, sales, quality, service, sourcing, and manufacturing to develop specifications for new innovative products.
Work with manufacturing teams to ensure Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) is considered during part design and implementation.
Manage design through Appliance Dimensioning System including the use of GD&T, 3D tolerance analysis, gaging development, and 3D qualification.
Demonstrate proven ability to work in a cross-functional environment to implement design into a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Support the implementation of chosen design concepts within the manufacturing facility by participating in lean events and executing product builds.
What you need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineer is required.
Minimum 10 years in gas product design and development within appliances or adjacent industry.
Advanced knowledge of gas component and system design with expertise in gas combustion.
Working knowledge of industry ANSI standards for gas component and product design.
Self-starter passion for innovative engineering design as well as exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in 3D modeling software such as Creo, Solidworks, or equivalent.
Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional global organization.
Demonstrated use of predictive analysis along with a hands-on / experimental approach to study designs in a lab environment.
Passion for teamwork and above average verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
Advanced computer skills with high proficiency in Microsoft products and ability to grasp new systems quickly.
Some travel within the Southeastern US or Mexico to support team design and production activities (approximately 25%).
Masters degree in Mechanical Engineer is preferred.
Experience working with CSA or UL to qualify products to agency standards.
Demonstrated experience with reliability test design and qualification.
Proficiency in submission and analysis of Intellectual Property.
