Manufacturing Quality Improvement Engineer, Refrigeration (2nd shift, Test & Final)
The Quality Improvement Engineer (QIE) executes operational and strategic efforts focused on product quality improvement, with primary oversight of the Refigeration manufacturing facility’s test and final assembly areas.
What you will Do
Collaborate with factory operations team to improve product quality through the identification and elimination of root cause of issues. Utilize Lean manufacturing concepts to facilitate the success and validation of manufacturing processes. Ensure that test equipment is working properly and does not result in lost starts.
Respond to abnormalities in product and component testing results. Track system performance and metrics (i.e., No Fault Found, Yield, test Cycle time.) Monitor testers to be sure there are no false failures due to defective test equipment.
Coach Team Leaders to ensure escalation processes are followed for quality-related issues.
Partner with plant operations personnel to promote a team that reacts aggressively to factory inefficiencies, and escalates issues as necessary, to drive their resolution, thereby increasing rate and improving yield.
Drive continuous improvement in the area. Ensure that PM for all test equipment, printers and sniffers is followed and documented - including cable refurbishment.
Support work station documentation process; create, update and maintain Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCI’s), visual aid and alerts (single point lessons) as needed.
Provide guidance to the broad New Product Introduction (NPI) team regarding manufacturing process capabilities for application to new designs, processes or geometries. Evaluate and implement new testing technologies to support new product innovations, while improving outgoing quality.
Own all aspects of the testing process including data analysis to drive yield, CTQ and scrap metrics as defined in goals and objectives.
This role is ideal for a demonstrated self-starter with the ability to make decisions and quickly identify root cause and corrective action in a high-pressure situation.
What you need to Succeed
Experience with manufacturing quality and process improvement in a fast-paced, high volume manufacturing environment, troubleshooting all test equipment and working with Maintenance to change out failed equipment.
Experience with Lean manufacturing principles
Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization (both salaried and shop floor operators / skilled trades team members)
Good communication skills – will be expected to provide program report outs to cross-functional team.
Demonstrated ability to take ownership of cross-functional program deliverables and ability to drive decisions based on the overall benefit to the company
Leadership experience or has played a lead role in the definition, design, implementation and troubleshooting of quality and/or manufacturing processes.
Computer literate and skilled in Windows 7/ Windows 10 Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with an in depth understanding of computer networking, and printing troubleshooting.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent 2 years’ hands on experience in manufacturing quality disciplines dealing with Electronics and electrical equipment
2+ years of experience with manufacturing quality/NPI quality projects and process improvement
Experience interpreting data to solve problems associated with high volume, short cycle manufacturing of consumer products including reading blueprints and troubleshooting electrical equipment.
Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills Technical Degree or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.
Diagnostic Capability for: Voltage, Watts, Current, Pressure Transducers and relays for equipment with 120V AC, 220V AC, 1250V AC, 1500V DC, and 24V DC
Ground Bond and HIPOT equipment
Cognex Cameras, Data Logic Scanners, and Photo-eyes
- Good understanding of C#.
Bachelors in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred
Strongly prefer 5+ years quality experience in high-volume manufacturing environment
Prefer experience in Electronic/electrical equipment
Assisted or is ready to assist in the design and procurement of gages and instruments from suppliers and engineering teams
Working conditions are normal for a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 30 pounds and working in and around heavy equipment.
Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats.
These roles will require frequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment.
This position will be located in Louisville, KY.
This position may require travel to suppliers or other manufacturing plants (10%).
Hours & Weekends: Working off-shift and weekends will be required. (i.e. 3pm-12am plus additional time as needed)
