Design Engineer - Hydraulics & EM
The Design Engineer (Hydraulics and EM) position is an integral role in the design, development and implementation of innovative, cost-efficient and reliable hydraulic and electro-mechanical (EM) design solutions for washer products that deliver superior performance and efficiencies for GE Appliances, a Haier Company. The position will closely interact with other engineers, along with manufacturing and commercial teams to understand all consumer and design for manufacturing (DFM) queues to design and produce new and innovative products that lead the market. The use of skilled engineering analysis and judgment, with a strong desire to exceed customer expectations in every way is paramount to success in this position.
What you will Do
Function as a design engineer in a team setting responsible for developing optimized hydraulic and EM design solutions around cost, quality and performance that align to program execution schedules.
Develop new modular dispenser designs for the LCP (Low Cost Premium) NPI Program
Utilize SolidWorks and/or CREO to perform component and subsystem design and analysis.
Develop and evaluate multiple design paths with the use of engineering analysis, rapid prototyping techniques and general hands-on skills in engineering and reliability labs.
Own engineering responsibility for assigned parts as well as lead projects through the NPI and/or C-change process, depending on project scope.
Perform regular assessments of past and most current competitive hydraulic and EM designs to understand trends as well as define and navigate the competitive landscape with respect to these features.
Test and evaluate GEA designs as well as competitor models to identify best in class practices in design, manufacturing, total cost and performance.
Work closely with the manufacturing and commercial teams from product conception to production implementation to ensure effective cross-functional cooperation.
Utilize GD&T dimensioning and statistical tools to ensure a robust design in a high-volume manufacturing and assembly operation.
Work with multiple suppliers to ensure optimal designs at the best total cost and process efficiencies.
Innovate hydraulic and EM designs for current and new washing machines that meet agency guidelines while maintaining leading positions in wash performance and reliability.
Occasional travel may be required.
Qualifications / Requirements
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 3 years of component design experience in consumer products related industry.
Experience designing and testing hydraulics and EM components.
Experience designing and testing injection-molded plastic parts.
Fluent use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word software packages.
Proficient use of Microsoft Project or equivalent project management software.
Solid written and oral communication skills.
What you need to Succeed
MS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
5 years of component and subassembly design experience in consumer products related industry.
Design experience with washing machines or other high velocity rotating equipment.
Knowledge of Home Laundry industry and product performance evaluation methods for washers/dryers.
Ability to design, build, and execute a test plan and clearly present data to a diverse group and openly debate technical issues.
Solid understanding of part design for part tooling design optimization.
Experience with design concept development through various rapid-prototyping techniques.
Ability to quickly frame up a problem by developing a test set up with instrumentation, developing and running experiments, and providing recommendations.
Ability to work multiple design options in parallel and use engineering logic to narrow selection to the optimum design.
Ability to use statistical tools to identify real and meaningful changes in performance.
Proficient in LabVIEW, PLC programming, or other control development packages.
Experience with Agilent or other data collection test equipment.
Resourceful laboratory and shop skills.
Practical knowledge and exposure to risk assessment and part design tools including Functional Block Diagrams, Design FMEA’s, Weibull analysis, fishbone diagrams and tolerance loops.
Six Sigma experience.
