The Challenge

The Thermal Engineering Technician role, located in Evansville, Indiana, is responsible for coordinating the schedule(test, preventive maintenance, calibration, etc) to optimize output and meet priorities.

What you will Do

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating the schedule (test, preventive maintenance, and calibration) to optimize output and meet priorities

  • Apply unique technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of appliances and related industry, regulatory, and internal standards to review test plans, develop test methods and then execute

  • Apply technical expertise of instrumentation and test software to setup instrumentation and design new test fixtures to correctly apply the test standard to the product under evaluation

  • Interpret results, prepare test documentation, review calibration reports, and build uncertainty budgets to the lab’s ISO 17025 quality policies. Document failures in FRACAS and assist engineers with root cause, analysis and alternate solutions

  • Thorough understanding of applicable standards (UL, ANSI, DOE, CFR, CSA, IEC, and ASTM). Provide feedback on proposed changes and recommend changes to the lab equipment and processes for compliance to changes.

  • Train and educate new personnel (including technicians, engineers and interns). Participate in training both inside and outside of their areas of technical expertise

  • Maintain supplies, environment, and consumables to meet regulatory and lab policies

  • Move engineering samples between the test area, preparation area, and storage areas

  • Interpret test results, document failures in FRACAS and assist engineers with root cause, analysis and alternate solutions

  • Assist engineers in creation/modification of test procedures

  • Complete prototype requests of test fixtures, subsystems or appliances

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 year technical degree, vocational degree, or military equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years experience with mills, lathes, CNC, brazing, welders and other prototyping equipment

  • Thorough understanding of test equipment, software, calibration, and instrumentation. Able to troubleshoot test setup, confirm required accuracy is met and knowledgeable of routine maintenance

  • Ability to test to standards (UL, ANSI, DOE, CFR, CSA, IEC, ASTM, etc.)

  • Able to carry out intricate and precise work

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

  • Attention to detail and time management skills to multitask to meet schedule

  • Strong Computer skills and the ability to learn new software

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • Thorough understanding of test equipment, test software, calibration and knowledgeable of routine maintenance

  • Knowledgeable of multiple test procedures

  • Strong understanding of products (operation and failure modes)

  • Physical ability to move large appliances

  • Universal Refrigerant Certification
