The Challenge

Supports the quality initiatives on a new part, or NPI product design to set the factory up for sustainable long-term ownership and success. Manages problems utilizing APQP processes that requires independent problem solving and self-direction. Independently manages projects for a work area and executes/implements quality systems primarily on an NPI. Requires limited supervision and knowledge of engineering/quality/product line. Very data driven and makes decisions based on the data.

What you will Do

  • Support GE Appliances DPO refrigeration site located in Decatur, AL

  • This role is based at DPO, supporting DPO and primarily 1st shift

  • Some travel required:

  • This role is DPO based, but potentially 5% travel required to Louisville, KY (GEA Headquarters) for trainings or similar sites.

  • Travel for supplier tool/equipment runoffs and approvals to ship

  • NPI Execution Planning:

  • This role is mostly focused on new design implementation and part qualification. Does require a strong understanding of the people and how the current processes work. The role is to work with a cross functional team to implement a new part, product, or process that is new, with a ‘turn key’ sustainable quality process at product launch for the factory to agree to and take ownership of executing.

  • Balance the communication between product design and manufacturing to ensure all issues get addressed with minimal surprises to achieve world class manufacturing goals.

  • Responsible for the NPI iP checklists (SI 900001S020P001_i Program Assessment) and completing/reporting out on Advanced Quality Engineering (AQE) responsible items prior to the reviews.

  • Drive COQ improvements: scrap, factory yield, concessions, damage and service calls.

  • Work cross-functionally with Design, Quality, Manufacturing, LEAN, marketing, EHS, service, etc. teams

  • Project-manage the scoping, definition and implementation of quality improvement for strategic and operational programs.

  • Must work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment with both salaried and hourly personnel to meet the needs of the operators, the program, and the business.

  • Lead cross-functional team PFMEA’s to understand the risks of new part/product/process changes and ensure team agrees to the mitigation accordingly and is implemented prior to product launch

  • Interfacing with team leaders to develop job instruction and define what is critical. Define the jobs through standard work and job instructions.

  • CIB Execution

  • Follow the same responsibilities and duties mentioned above for NPI programs, but also for new part/product PCTO related projects introduced at CIB.

  • Support for total cost take out and run the plant projects. Collaborate with CIB chair for quality improvement and project execution.

  • Be an advocate for trial runs for new changes to ‘practice like you intend to play’ that contains clear pass/fail criteria to validate during the trials to ensure full production is a success.

  • Own the APQP process for newly introduced in-house manufactured parts, assemblies, and processes (SC4, SC5, & SC6 parts):

  • Responsible for the PPAP of in-house equipment and parts primarily associated with a NPI without significant direction.

  • Plan, specify, procure, certify and implement into production high quality, cost effective, right-sized manufacturing processes including: fixtures, line side gauging, go/no-go, measurement plans, DC guns and equipment.

  • Develop and implement quality test plans for the factory to execute ensuring sustained control of Critical to Quality and Critical Process features.

  • Ensure all process involvement meets or exceeds ISO, UL, and GEA standards

  • Understand GEA technical drawings, both MBD/GD&T and linear dimensions, and ensure the quality plans established meet the drawing specifications.

  • Develop and implement all technical documentation or modifications for the new items they introduce including the quality control plan required for an ISO certified plant (MCP’s, MCI’s, FRM’s, etc.)

What you need to Succeed

  • Experience in manufacturing plant environment.

  • Experience with manufacturing equipment and processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College Degree desired, technical field preferred.

  • Experience in CAD and/or manipulation of 3D CAD data.

  • Working knowledge of parametric and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing CAD disciplines.

  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects to maximize output.

  • Able to balance priorities in a potentially high stress environment.

  • Ability to diagnose and communicate machine faults to service technicians and maintenance personnel.

  • Leadership and effective communication experience in the definition, design, implementation and troubleshooting of manufacturing processes.

  • Self-starter and influencer – metric driven and willing to work with cross-functional teams and hourly workforce.

  • Excellent project tracking and detailed planning skills required.

  • Computer literate and skilled in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and others.

  • Influencer and team player – drive quality metrics but willing to look at the bigger picture.

  • Good communicator – data driven, makes decisions based on the data

  • Experience interpreting data to solve manufacturing problems.

  • Proactive to seeing a problem and wanted to drive an innovative sustainable long-term solution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Already familiar with DPO, how it works, who to go to, the struggles, and the strengths

  • Experienced using, programming, and interpreting CMM/3D scanning/metrology systems.

  • Experience in implementing Lean process improvements in high volume manufacturing operations.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification proficient with Minitab

  • Experience in metrology / measurement systems.

  • Proficient with understanding both coordinate and geometric GD&T drawings
